A mommy makeover typically consists of abdominoplasty to tighten and re-position the muscles which are displaced during pregnancy and to remove the excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen.  This is combined with a breast procedure, either a breast lift or breast augmentation and lift.  These procedures in combination can produce dramatic results and can help correct the deflation or skin laxity after pregnancy.  These procedures should not be undertaken until the patient is done having children since any subsequent pregnancies will stretch the tummy tuck repair.  The recovery time is approximately two to three weeks and surgery is performed under general anesthesia or deep anesthesia.  Patients can go home the same day as surgery or the following morning and there is a postoperative visit at approximately one week.  If a breast lift is involved, then typically there is a drain placed at the time to decrease the chance of any fluid collection around the implant.  Other precautions are taken to ensure that this is a safe and comfortable procedure since many of our mommy makeover patients are busy moms at home.
