Dr. Alexander Valiga

Dr. Alexander Valiga is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. He grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA and attended nearby Drexel University where he earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. It was during this time that Dr. Valiga developed his passion for treating skin cancer by spending several years conducting melanoma research at the world-renowned Wistar Institute. Motivated to expand his knowledge from leaders in the field, he then completed a research fellowship in Switzerland at the prestigious University Hospital Zurich. Following these experiences, he continued on to Drexel University College of Medicine where he received awards for both leadership and academic excellence. After graduation, Dr. Valiga completed his dermatology residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and was elected to serve as Chief Resident during his final year. He went on to complete a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery (Mohs) and Dermatologic Oncology at Penn State Health in Hershey, PA.

As a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, Dr. Valiga is among an elite group of skin cancer specialists dedicated to the treatment of both common and rare skin cancers. A major part of treating a skin cancer is the reconstruction that follows a Mohs procedure and Dr. Valiga has extensive experience in advanced facial reconstructive surgery including facial flaps, skin/cartilage grafting, and staged reconstructions.

In addition to treating skin cancer, he also has undergone dedicated training in phlebology (vein medicine). Dr. Valiga has experience in evaluating and treating the spectrum of leg vein disease including sclerotherapy of spider veins, phlebectomy of varicose veins, and ultrasound-guided endovenous ablation for symptomatic saphenous vein disease.

Dr. Valiga is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Vein and Lymphatic Society, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and has received several awards for his research.

Outside of work, Dr. Valiga enjoys spending time with his wife and often can be found cheering on any of the local Philadelphia sports teams (particularly the Flyers). He enjoys staying active and loves to cook whenever he can.
